Wolverines outscore Longhorns

The young Logan boys basketball team lost two games last week, including a 66-39 non-district decision Saturday at Texico.

The Wolverines outscored the Longhorns 25-8 in the second quarter to seize control.

“We came out pretty flat and never really got going the entire game,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said.

Brock Burns led the Longhorns with 13 points, which fell to 4-12 overall.

Texico improved to 7-5 overall.

Melrose 63, Logan 47

Melrose turned a close game into a comfortable district win by outscoring Logan 19-6 in the fourth period Thursday.

The Buffaloes improved to 9-3 overall during their district opener.

“The team played really hard,” Griffiths said. “Battled one of the top teams in the state. Their size ended up hurting us in the end.”

Kaeden Stoner led the Longhorns with 16 points, and Burns added 12.

Clovis Christian 64, San Jon 5

Clovis Christian blanked overmatched San Jon in the first half and held the Coyotes to one field goal for the game Thursday.

San Jon received two points apiece from Tristian Reed and Marvin Reese.

Carter Teune tallied all 15 of his points in the first half for the Eagles (12-2, 3-0 District 6-1A), while Noah Gershon and Caleb Van Beek added 12 apiece. All 11 players scored for Clovis Christian, which extended its winning streak to 12 games.

San Jon fell to 1-8.
