Logan board OKs school re-entry rules

The Logan Municipal Schools board last week approved revised re-entry school procedures that reflect waning case numbers in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Superintendent Dennis Roch said masks no longer are required in school, but he noted a few teachers and students still wear them. Masks also are no longer required on school buses.

The rules also scale back testing of staff members, though self-health screenings still are encouraged.

Roch said one significant change is the Logan school district soon will reopen its weight room to the public for the first time in two years.

He said the weight room will be reopened to the public after the high-school powerlifting season ends April 9.

After that, the public will be allowed to use the facility outside of school hours and when at least one district staff member is present.

In other business:

• Roch announced Jaylee Judd will be the Class of 2022’s valedictorian, and Reece Goldston will be salutatorian.

He said students have chosen to have their graduation in the gym, at 4 p.m. May 21. Online students’ graduation will be 2 p.m. that day. The previous two graduations were held outdoors due to COVID-19 restrictions.

• The board approved a resolution opposition New Mexico Bank & Trust’s planned closing of its Logan branch in June.

• The board approved teacher salary schedules for the 2022-2023 school year.
