Four Lady Rattlers make all-district

Four players from Tucumcari's Class 3A tournament-qualifying softball team recently earned all-district honors.

Junior shortstop Alexus Lafferty, junior first baseman Sierra Valverde, sophomore left fielder Harley McKinney and sophomore pitcher Mireya Estrada were the Lady Rattlers who nabbed first-team honors in District 4/5.

District champ Dexter totaled seven first-team players, and runner-up East Mountain had five.

Lafferty led the 14-12 Lady Rattlers in batting average (.574), runs scored (50), doubles (15), triples (3), home runs (6), RBI (33) and was second in stolen bases (44).

Valverde was third in batting average (.505), second in hits (46), second in RBI (25) and tied for second in doubles (13).

McKinney hit .479, was third in stolen bases (40), third in runs scored (40) and third in hits (45).

Estrada pitched almost all of Tucumcari's games, striking out 80 in 104 innings.

Second-team district players for Tucumcari were sophomore center fielder Haisley Huffman and junior outfielder / infielder Sage Knapp.

Huffman batted .440, led the team with 47 stolen bases and was second in home runs with four. Knapp hit .449.

Honorable mentions for the Lady Rattlers were eighth-grade second baseman Kylee Carmichael, who batted .462, and sophomore catcher Amaya Infante, who hit .362.
