Mesalands gets $5,000 for student emergency fund

Mesalands Community College recently was awarded $5,000 from the Educational Credit Management Corporation Emergency Aid Program to help students in financial emergencies.

Mesalands maintains an emergency aid fund for students. Unforeseen financial emergencies such as vehicle maintenance, transportation needs or other unexpected costs may cause a student to withdraw.

Mesalands created an emergency fund for students. In the event of an unforeseen emergency that may make attendance impossible, the college provides students with resources to overcome those barriers.

“Small emergencies can be detrimental to a student’s academic and professional success. Our

food pantry and emergency services can be all the difference in a student’s future. This

partnership with ECMC and additional funds ensures students have every opportunity to succeed.” Mesalands President Gregg Busch stated in a news release.

The nonprofit Educational Credit Management Corporation aims to empower underserved communities to thrive through education. The Emergency Aid Program was developed by the U.S. Department of Education and partnered with ECMC to help fund and assign institutions that meet guidelines requirements.

Mesalands students can find information on how to apply for emergency funds though its Student Support Services webpage.
