1972: Members of the Tucumcari School Board talked about the possibility of building vocational school for the area and approved a feasibility study to look into the matter.

Among those discussing the proposal with the board were Mayor King Aitken, City Commissioner John Crespin, First National Bank President Wilbur Jones, Larry Harvill of the city’s industrial board and Frances Olsen of the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce.

Ken Rasmussen, director of High Plains Area Technical Vocational School in Clovis, said that school opened a year ago and was tripling its enrollment. He said contrary to the notion the school would consist mostly of teenage dropouts, the majority of High Plains students were over 21 years old.

• The Rattler Marching Band, consisting of 65 members, received a superior rating at the Southeastern District Marching Band Festival in Artesia over the weekend. It competed against 18 other bands at the contest.

• The Odeon Theatre was screening “The Godfather,” starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Castellano, Sterling Hayden, Robert Duvall, Richard Conte and Diane Keaton.
