Logan linebacker plays role in all-star win

Logan senior linebacker Park Strong helped the Red team to a 29-6 victory Saturday at the Small School Red vs. Green All-Star Football Event.

The game, organized by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association, was played at the Bulldog Bowl in Artesia.

Logan coach Dwayne Roberts, who attended the game, said Strong made "10 or 12 tackles. He did well, as expected."

Roberts said Strong also made two sacks and several other tackles for a loss.

"He was in the backfield a lot," he said.

Strong also played on the kickoff and point-after-touchdown squads.

Strong, an all-district player at two positions, was voted Defensive Player of the Year in District 3 in eight-man football.

One of Strong's teammates on the Red team was from a district opponent during the regular season - Fort Sumner-House receiver Clay Norman.

The Red team also included senior players from Raton, Ruidoso, Socorro, Eunice, Escalante, Cuba, Jal, Thoreau, Santa Rosa, Cobre, St. Michaels, Laguna Acoma, Loving, Magdalena, Hope Christian, Robertson, Tularosa, Elida and Estancia. The coach was Kief Johnson of Ruidoso.

The Green All-Stars included other personnel from Logan's regular-season district: at-large players David Mendoza and Taylor Garner of Tatum and offensive lineman Nash Martin of Melrose. Adrian Gonzales of West Las Vegas coached that squad.
