On this date ...

1972: Tucumcari Student Council members were conducting a one-day, safe-holiday roadblock on Tucumcari Boulevard.

Motorists were invited to stop inside the Tucumcari Information Center and have coffee and other refreshments before a long trip ahead of them.

Motorists were wished a safe and happy holiday by students and police officers that assisted them.

• The Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce elected new officers: president Bob Balch, first vice president Delton Wilson and second vice president Phil Hamlett.

• The First National Bank placed a paper nativity display made by the Tucumcari Junior High School art class in one of its windows.

• The Tucumcari High School wrestling team finished in a tie for second at its nine-team Tucumcari Invitational. Bloomfield won the tournament with 83½ points, and Tucumcari and St. Michael’s each scored 72 points. Other teams participating were West Las Vegas, Los Lunas, Robertson, Espanola, Mora and Tucumcari Junior High.

• The Odeon Theatre was screening two “Peanuts” films: “Snoopy, Come Home” and “A Boy Named Charlie Brown.” Later in the week, it was scheduled to show two John Wayne movies: “Big Jake” and “Rio Lobo.”
