Lady Longhorns overpower Des Moines

Desta Rose scored 19 points to power the Logan girls basketball team to a 67-35 non-district victory Saturday over visiting Des Moines.

Camryn Cantrell added 15 points for the Lady Longhorns, and Hailee Robertson had 14.

Logan coach Dustin Robertson said the game featured “two very different halves.”

“We played hard in first half and looked good,” he said. “Second half, I thought our defensive intensity wasn’t what it should be. We got the win, though.”

The Lady Longhorns improved to 7-2 and were ranked seventh in the latest Class 1A coaches poll.

Des Moines fell to 1-5.

Logan 41, Boise City 32

The Lady Longhorns came out on top Friday with a 41-32 non-district decision at Boise City, Oklahoma.

Coach Robertson described the game as “a grind.”

“We didn’t shoot well, but we did execute fairly well,” he said. “The girls’ defense was solid, also. It was the type of game we needed, and I was proud of the maturity the girls showed.”

Lizzy Horner led Logan with 10 points. Hailee Robertson added nine points and Rose eight.

Boise City fell to 0-4.

Roy-Mosquero 36, Logan 27

Logan lost its second game of the season, this time a 36-27 non-district loss Thursday against visiting state contender Roy-Mosquero.

Natalie Bongers led the Lady Longhorns with six points.

“We didn’t shoot very well,” coach Robertson said. “We also didn’t rebound good enough in the second half. However, the girls played very hard.”

The Lady Blue improved to 8-1 overall and were ranked second only to Melrose in the latest Class 1A coaches poll.
