The Logan girls basketball team hit a rough patch last week with consecutive non-district losses to Clayton and Springer.
On Saturday, host Springer used an 8-2 run in the fourth quarter to turn a small deficit into a 42-34 victory on Friday.
Logan coach Dustin Robertson said his team was bothered by the Red Devils’ length on defense.
“They deflected a lot of passes and prevented, blocked or hindered a lot of our shots,” he said. “They also work hard to block out, although my girls did a better blocking out, also.
“We handled their pressure a little better than the Clayton game, but not nearly good enough to win.”
Springer, ranked fifth in Class 1A, improved to 8-1, with their only loss a 48-35 decision against Hoehne, Colorado.
Desta Rose scored nine points to lead Logan (8-5), and Marilyn Moreno added eight.
Clayton 55, Logan 35
A state-ranked Clayton squad earned a 55-35 non-district victory Thursday at Logan.
Clayton, ranked fourth in Class 2A by MaxPreps.com, improved to 11-1 overall.
Lizzy Horner led the Lady Longhorns with 13 points.
“We did a poor job of handling their pressure,” Robertson said. “We were not very poised.”
The Yellowjackets’ only loss this season was a 54-48 decision against Tatum on Dec. 2. Since then, Clayton has won nine in a row.
EPAC tourney
Logan earned the third seed for this week’s Plateau EPAC Tournament. The Lady Longhorns will face sixth-seeded Grady at 6 p.m. Thursday at Logan High School during the first round.
Subsequent games on Friday and Saturday will be played at Texico High School.
Melrose is the top seed, and Fort Sumner is the No. 2 seed.
