Three Rattlers make all-district

Three players from the Tucumcari boys basketball team earned first-team all-district honors.

For Logan, three players made the first team in their rugged district.

Tucumcari senior point guard Curtis Gonzales, freshman center Kamren Apodaca and freshman guard Daymion Urioste each landed on the first team in District 3A-4.

Gonzales and Apodaca consistently were the top scorers for the Rattlers all season. Urioste took on more ball-handling chores late in the season and proved to be a potent scorer.

Tucumcari finished with a 9-17 record but finished second in its district and earned a spot in the Class 3A tournament. Eventual state champion St. Michael’s eliminated Tucumcari in the first round.

For the Longhorns, junior point guard Brock Burns, senior power forward Park Strong and junior guard Kaeden Stoner each made the first team in District A-6.

Burns led the team with 13.4 points, 3.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

Stoner was second in scoring with 10.7 points per game.

Strong led the team in field goal percentage (49%) and free throw percentage (76%) and was second in rebounds per game (5.3).

Logan finished with an 18-12 record overall and tied for third in District A-6 with Clovis Christian.

The Longhorns made it to the Class A quarterfinals before being eliminated by top-seeded and state runner-up Magdalena.

Logan freshman center Mason Wallin and freshman forward Hayden Bruhn were honorable mentions in the district.

Eventual state champion and district champ Fort Sumner-House saw five players named to the all-district team.
