Logan softball drops doubleheader to Clayton

Despite Marilyn Moreno’s heroics, the Logan softball team dropped a doubleheader Friday against visiting Clayton, keeping the Lady Longhorns winless in district play.

The Yellowjackets prevailed by scores of 18-11 in the first game and 22-19 in the second game.

Logan fell to 7-14 overall and 0-8 in district play.

In the first game, Moreno went 3-for-3 with a double, five stolen bases and four RBI.

In the nightcap, Moreno went 4-for-5 with two doubles, seven stolen bases, four runs scored and two RBI.

Fellow Lady Longhorn Savannah Smith went 2-for-3 in the second game. Pitcher Charli Fuller struck out five and went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Clayton improved to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in district.

The Lady Longhorns close their season with a district game Tuesday at Clayton.

Logan 19, San Jon 3

The Lady Longhorns prevailed 19-3 over visiting San Jon in a non-district matchup Thursday.

Moreno blasted an inside-the-park grand slam and drive in five runs for Logan.

San Jon fell to 0-9.

Raton JV 16, Logan 0

Raton JV 27, Logan 8

The Raton junior varsity swept a doubleheader from visiting Logan last Tuesday by scores of 16-0 and 27-8.

The Lady Longhorns managed just two hits — one each by Camryn Cantrell and Moreno — during the shutout loss.

In the second game, Cantrell went 1-for-3 with three RBI. Moreno hit a double, drove in two runs and scored a run.
