Six area volleyball players earn all-state honors

Four players from Logan’s Class 1A runner-up volleyball team earned first-team or second-team all-state honors from the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

Meanwhile for Tucumcari, the Benavidez sisters each earned second-team all-state honors from the Lady Rattlers squad, which went deep into the Class 2A tournament.

The coaches association announced the all-state picks for all enrollment classifications last week.

For the Lady Longhorns,middle blocker Haylie Bidegan, junior outside hitter Desta Rose and sophomore defensive specialist Jadyn Garcia each earned first-team honors in Class 1A.

Junior defensive specialist Mylee Stone was a second-team selection for Logan.

Bidegain led the Lady Longhorns in kills (276), aces (43), hitting percentage (.281) and blocks (71) and was second on the team in assists (342).

She also was chosen for the association’s Class 1A/2A Red-Green All-Star game for standout seniors.

Rose was second on the Logan squad in kills (243) and digs (349).

Garcia led the Lady Longhorns with 380 digs during the 2024 season.

Stone was second on the team in aces with 26 and third in digs with 212.

Logan finished with a 22-6 record, losing to Quemado in the 1A title match. The Lady Longhorns also went undefeated in their district.

For Tucumcari, senior setter Caylee Benavidez and sophomore outside hitter Cambree Benavidez each earned second-team all-state honors in Class 2A.

Caylee Benavidez, a four-year starter as setter and a first- or second-team all-state selection in all of those seasons, totaled 793 assists in 2024, an average of 8.3 per set. Her assists total was the best in 2A and ranked fourth in New Mexico.

Benavidez also led the team in service aces (58) and hitting percentage (.284) and was second in digs (345) and blocks (73).

Like Bidegain, she also was named to the Class 1A/2A Red-Green All-Star Game and was named Player of the Year in District 6-2A.

Cambree Benavidez overcame a serious knee injury last winter to lead the Lady Rattlers in kills (333) and was third in hitting percentage (.234).

The Lady Rattlers finished the season with an all-time-best 21-6 record, an unprecedented unbeaten record in district play and was sixth in the Class 2A tournament.
