It was a case of get pledges, jump rope and throw pies — at people.

San Jon elementary school students sold pledges to donors over the past several weeks and promised to participate in a marathon session of jump-roping to benefit the American Heart Association, according to Sherry Ford, a teacher and counselor.

In all, Ford said, this Jump Rope for Heart! campaign gathered $3,400 in donations.

On Thursday evening, the kids did their heart-healthy, aerobic rope-jumping in the school gym to fulfill their part of the pledges, she said.

Earlier in the day, the kids who gathered the most in donations got to throw some pies.

High school students, parents, teachers and even Superintendent Colin Taylor served as targets for the whipped-cream projectiles.

Robyn Evans received honors for picking up the most donations — more than $1,000.

High school students Joseph Benavidez, D.C. Lee, Dylan Bryant, Rylee Key, Karigan Thurman, and Chelsea Benally agreed to be targets.
