Estrada retains college trustee seat

Elizabeth Estrada was elected to another six-year term on the Mesalands Community College Board of Trustees Tuesday over opponent James Keith.

Estrada will continue to represent District 5 on the board. She won with 56 votes. Keith received 35.

Overall, the election attracted only 112 voters of the 4,532 registered voters in the college’s five five trustee districts.

James Streetman was re-elected in District 1, receiving eight votes. Theresa Stephenson was re-elected to her District 3 seat with 13 votes.

Estrada thanked her supporters and contgratulated Streetman and Stephenson fro retaining their seats on the board.

“The college has a bright future ahead,” she said, “and I will do my very best to represent my district in a manner that positively contributes to the standard of excellence the college continues to maintain.”

Keith said, “The voters made it clear they want to see the college continue in the way it has. I wish them the best of luck and I will help them in the best way I can.”
