Bomb threat forces bank to close

The Wells Fargo bank in Tucumcari was evacuated and closed for two hours Monday as law local enforcement officers responded to a bomb threat, according to Brett Welcher, Wells Fargo spokesman.

At 11 a.m. Monday, Tucumcari police Quay County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a bomb had been placed the Wells Fargo building on the 300 block of South First Street.

After employees and customers were escorted out and the doors were locked, officers and deputies searched and cleared the building, said Jason Braziel, TPD chief of police.

By 12:15 p.m., Braziel said, the search of the building was completed, no explosive or devices were found and the call was cleared. He said that the incident is still under investigation.

Welcher said at 1:30 p.m., Wells Fargo Bank in Tucumcari resumed normal operation.

“Our top priority is the safety of our teammates and customers,” Welcher said. “The bank has reopened for business and the situation has been cleared.”
