A California man was arrested for an outstanding US Marshall’s warrant Sunday in Logan has also been charged with trafficking $296,800 worth of methamphetamine that was hidden in his car.
At 12:24 p.m., Sunday an officer with the Logan Police Department stopped a vehicle driven by Jose DeJesus Munoz, 26, Wilmington, California, that was speeding on US Highway 54 in Logan.
During the stop it was determined that Munoz had an outstanding US Marshall’s warrant, said Bob Gore, Logan police chief.
Gore said while the officer waited for the warrant to be confirmed the actions of the driver, comments and visible indicators suggested Munoz may have illegal substances in the car. He said Munoz attempted to re-enter his vehicle and flee the scene but was stopped by the officer and placed into custody.
Gore said the officer requested assistance from Tucumcari Police Department’s K-9 officer Tyler Marney. He said Marney’s K-9 Aries made a positive hit on the vehicle and it was sealed and towed to the city garage until a search warrant could be obtained.
Gore said a search of the vehicle revealed 8.5 pounds of meth, two handguns reported stolen out of Albuquerque, $520 of counterfeit money and various items of paraphernalia.Munoz has been charged with trafficking of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of receiving stolen property and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
Munoz remains in the Quay County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
