Las Vegas-based comedian Carlos Medina made several appearances in Tucumcari to speak with residents today about his upcoming show on Feb. 6, at the Tucumcari Columbus Club.

“I have developed a good following in Tucumcari, Clovis and Portales and I wanted to come to eastern New Mexico to perform for my fans,” Medina said.

Medina said he uses an alter ego that he adopts for his stand-up comedy show named “Graviel De La Plaga.” He said the reason for the unique spelling of the first name is a common tendency for Northern New Mexico residents’ mispronunciation of the name “Gabriel.”

“My comedy is based on experiences I have lived through and the culture, ticks and tendencies of the people from the Las Vegas region,” Medina said.

The show, is being held at the Tucumcari Columbus Club, whose members were excited when contacted by Medina to play host to the show, said Jerry Lopez, resident agent for the Columbus Club.

Medina said today’s stops at Rubee’s To Go and Cornerstone Deli are his personal way of meeting with the fans and promoting the show. He said he enjoys connecting with the people who enjoy his comedy and performances.

Medina said he plans to come back to Tucumcari once more before the date of the show and would like to bring his acoustic guitar trio. He said the venue has not be selected but it would be a sort of preview for the upcoming show featuring live music and performances.
