One person has been hospitalized, and another arrested following an early Tuesday morning shooting in Tucumcari.

With the assistance of multiple agencies, Bobby Vandiver, 31, was arrested following a more than eight-hour search, said Russell Shafer, Quay County Sheriff.

Vandiver has been charged with assault with intent to commit a violent felony and booked into the Quay County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

Shafer said Joseph Quintana, 30, of Tucumcari is being sought for questioning in this incident.

Shafer said at 8:45 a.m., Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at a motel on the 800 block of West Route 66. He said upon arrival law enforcement officers made contact with a male who had been shot.

The male victim, whose identity was not released, was transported by ambulance to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital.

Shafer said the victim described the individuals that allegedly shot him to the deputies. He said after speaking with witnesses from the surrounding area a perimeter was established from West Route 66 to West Laughlin Avenue to attempt to locate the two individuals described.

The victim was airlifted to another hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Shafer said with the assistance of Las Cruces Police Department, New Mexico State Police, Tucumcari Police Department and Albuquerque’s SWAT unit one person of interest was arrested. He said the person’s identity can not be released at this time pending the ongoing investigation and charges yet to be filed
