1968: The newly renovated Tucumcari Airport formally opens to full air traffic tomorrow after it was officially accepted by the Federal Aviation Agency this morning after an inspection. The FAA lifted its NOTAM (Not Open to Airmen) restrictions that had been in effect during construction.

• Fire Chief Farrel Batson posed with the city's new 500-gallon firetruck that has a 750-gallon pumper capacity and foam and wet-water facilities. The truck was purchased from Southwest Motors in Tucumcari for $31,500, minus a $2,500 trade-in. The newspaper contrasted the photo of the firetruck with a circa-1913 image of Tucumcari's fire engine pulled by two horses.

• Cooper's Market in Tucumcari was advertising a two-pound package of thin- or thick-sliced bacon for $1.49 and pork chops for 69 cents a pound.
