Capital outlay priorities sorted

Quay County manager Richard Primrose said during the commissioners’ meeting Monday he was hopeful the county would receive capital outlay money from the state early next year for several projects.

Among the high-priority projects listed are repairs to the south roof of the Quay County Fairgrounds’ main building and repairs to county roads AP and AR near Tucumcari, he said.

Alluding to the Quay County Legislative Forum held Saturday at the Tucumcari Convention Center, state Sen. Pat Woods (R-Broadview) said he was confident in receiving capital outlay money from the upcoming legislative session but remained unsure on how much.

In other business, commissioners approved their meeting dates and holiday schedule for 2019.

Commission meetings generally are held the second and fourth Mondays of each month, but dates were moved to Jan. 7 for a New Mexico Counties Legislative Conference, to May 28 for the Memorial Day holiday, to June 28 for the New Mexico Association of Counties’ annual conference and to Nov. 8 for the Veterans Day holiday and for canvassing votes after the election.

Holidays in 2019 in Quay County include New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Good Friday (half day), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Time off for Martin Luther King Day and Columbus Day will be added to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
