1968: Homeowners in Tucumcari are being reminded the annual residential Christmas Lighting Contest is offering $125 in prizes, its largest ever. First prize is $50. Another Yuletide event that will take place Saturday is the bicycle giveaway at the former Wisner Drug building. Santa Claus will visit the former Top Ten Record Shop and draw the winning tickets.
• An advertisement in the newspaper by Safeway in Tucumcari offered bananas for 10 cents a pound. Another ad by Lloyd’s Shoe Store in Tucumcari offered Yodel model shoes made of virgin wool Velvafelt for $8.50.
