Logan defeats Mesilla Valley

A visiting Logan squad manhandled Mesilla Valley 50-0 in an eight-man football game that ended at halftime Friday because of the mercy rule.

The Longhorns led 20-0 after the first quarter. Logan, ranked fifth in the state, improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in District 3.

The SonBlazers, who have scored only three touchdowns all season, fell to 0-7, 0-3.

Logan travels to Tatum (6-1) at 7 p.m. Friday. Tatum, a 50-0 winner over Gateway Christian on Friday, defeated previously unbeaten Melrose 32-14 on Oct. 4 to seize first place in the district standings. A win by the Longhorns this week could lead to a three-way tie for first place in the league.

Elida 54, San Jon/Grady 0

Unbeaten and top-ranked Elida wrecked San Jon/Grady 54-0 in a six-man football game Saturday shortened by the mercy rule.

Elida, which improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in District 1, led 34-0 after the first quarter.

The visiting Coyotes fell to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in district play.

San Jon/Grady’s regular-season final is at 7 p.m. Friday at Floyd (1-5, 1-2), a 50-0 loser Friday to Springer/Maxwell.
