Mama T’s restaurant of Logan has set a tentative reopening date of early December in the historic Whiskey: The Road to Ruin building.
Mama T’s general manager Brian Cox said Friday during a telephone interview a firm date for the reopening would be announced later.
Mama T’s, citing a need to increase its seating area, announced in January it would move from 120 U.S. 54 in Logan to the former Eagles lodge down the road.
Cox said the new edition of Mama T’s would serve its usual menu of breakfast items, American food and barbecue, plus Mexican food and steaks.
He said the restaurant also would serve New Mexican-brewed craft beer, including from Roosevelt Brewing Co. in Portales. Cox said he may eventually serve his own beer, but “that is down the road.” Quay County still lacks a microbrewery, despite immense growth in that sector in recent years.
Logan voters in June approved by a wide margin a referendum on whether to allow the sale of beer and wine in restaurants in the village. Mama T’s had asked for the vote. Mama T’s license is different from The Annex Bar-B-Q and Grill’s, which is attached to a convenience store and has a distributor license for alcohol.
Cox said renovations to the building were nearly complete. He did not touch the bar, however, because he said it’s historic, and any changes to it would touch off an outcry.
Whiskey: The Road to Ruin was an Eagles club until it closed in July 2018. According to the Tucumcari Historical Museum, it once was The Ranch Bar, owned by Mae Cobb. Before that, it was Johnson Mercantile.
