Logan girls place second

The Logan girls basketball squad finished second at the Black and Gold Tournament with a 61-47 victory over host Clayton on Saturday.

Jordan Hines led the Lady Longhorns (6-1) with 24 points. Karli Webb and Kesleah Shields each added 10.

“We played well,” Logan coach Glynna Strand said. “(We) got into a bit of foul trouble but overall looked good.”

Clayton fell to 3-4.

Goddard (6-1) won the round-robin tournament with three wins.

Logan 59, Boys Ranch 40

Webb scored 20 points to lead the Lady Longhorns to a 59-40 victory Friday over Boys Ranch in the Black and Gold Tournament.

Kassi Foote added 11 points for Logan.

“We are inconsistent right now,” Strand said. “(We) look really good at times but still have a lot to work on.”

Boys Ranch fell to 0-8 after the tournament.

Goddard 37, Logan 34

The Lady Longhorns dropped their opening game Thursday in the Black and Gold Tournament by a 37-34 score to powerful Goddard.

Hines led Logan with 12 points, and Webb added 11.

Strand said her team looked “pretty poised” against Goddard, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A by MaxPreps.com.

“We handled the pressure pretty well; we just need to be more solid on shooting,” she said.

Grady/San Jon 67, Elida 20

Grady/San Jon consoled itself from a stinging loss in the Elida Tournament semifinal by trouncing the host team 67-20 to secure third place Saturday.

Teryn Foote led the Lady Bronchos with 19 points. Krissy Grau and Isabelle Martinez each added 14 points as Grady/San Jon improved to 4-3.

Lady Bronchos coach Alicia Rush said her team “played well, worked hard.”

“It was a good win for us going into Christmas break,” she added.

Elida fell to 1-5.

Dexter 33, Grady/San Jon 31

The Lady Bronchos saw their chance for a title game at the Elida Tournament dashed when the Dexter rallied to win 33-31 Friday in the semifinal.

Grady/San Jon clung to a 22-20 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Dexter outscored it 13-9 the rest of the way. The Lady Demons later won the tournament title by defeating Clovis Christian 48-36 on Saturday.

Foote led the Lady Bronchos with 13 points.

Rush said her team “played well at times” against Dexter.

“It was a good learning experience for us,” she said. “We are growing.”

Grady/San Jon 42, Clovis JV 33

Foote scored 20 points to help lead the Lady Bronchos past the Clovis junior-varsity squad 42-33 in the first round Thursday of the Elida Tournament.

Rush said her team “started slow but made some big shots.”

“Isabelle Martinez stepped up tonight,” Rush added. The junior made eight free throws and scored 12 points overall.
