Logan cancels fireworks

The village of Logan won’t hold its annual fireworks display or street dance on the Fourth of July because of coronavirus restrictions. Officials there are holding out hope the village still can hold its parade and watermelon crawl on that date.

The Logan-Ute Lake Chamber of Commerce announced Friday on social media the annual fireworks at the lake’s Windy Point area and the street dance downtown were canceled.

“This is disappointing for us as it is for all of you but hopefully next year’s 4th of July Festivities will resume,” it stated.

The chamber stated a decision would be made closer to the holiday about the parade and watermelon crawl.

New Mexico has banned all public gatherings indefinitely because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has killed almost 400 people in the state this year.

Officials from Tucumcari’s Rotary Club were scheduled to meet this week to decide on whether to have the annual July 4 fireworks show at the Elks Lodge in the city.
