Four more COVID-19 cases reported Sunday in Logan

The New Mexico Department of Health on Sunday reported four more confirmed cases of coronavirus in Quay County, all in Logan.

Logan has seen 15 confirmed cases in five days. The total number of cases in the county overall since the pandemic began reached 50.

Ute Lake State Park in Logan has remained closed since Wednesday after several workers there showed coronavirus-like symptoms and later were confirmed with the disease. The park will remain closed through Aug. 25 while the workers are quarantined and the buildings disinfected.

Logan Municipal Schools announced Thursday it would delay the school year set to begin Monday because one staff member tested positive for COVID-19 and two others showed symptoms. The school board will hold a special meeting Sunday night to adjust the district’s schedule.

Logan Municipal Schools also was officially added Thursday to the New Mexico Environmental Department's COVID-19 rapid-response team referral list because of the confirmed case there.

According to the DOH website, the latest cases Sunday are three women and one man. Two were age 20 to 29, one was 30 to 39, and one was 70 to 79.

The total number of cases in the county is 29 in the Tucumcari ZIP code, 19 in the Logan ZIP code, and four in the San Jon ZIP code.

Thirteen in the county have been deemed as recovered from the disease, with one death reported in April from a resident who contracted the virus in Florida.

A total of 1,427 people have been tested for the virus in Quay County. The county has seen a large increase in the positivity rate since Aug. 11. About 20% (17 of 86) have tested positive for the disease during that time. The state's overall test-positivity rate is under 3%.

Statewide, the total number of cases Sunday was 113, a relatively low number. The seven-day average dropped to 170, very close to the gating-criteria goal of 168. New Mexico has recorded more than 23,408 cases since the pandemic began.

Three deaths were reported statewide Sunday, bringing the total to 714 in the state.

A total of 10,391 people in New Mexico have been deemed as recovered from the virus. A total of 109 people remain hospitalized with the disease, which has been trending downward.

In the U.S., nearly 5.4 million people have been confirmed with the virus, with more than 169,000 deaths as of Sunday afternoon.
