Two new coronavirus cases reported in Quay

Two new coronavirus cases also were reported Sunday in the Tucumcari ZIP code.

The latest coronavirus cases in Quay County reported were a male and a female each age 50 to 59 in the Tucumcari ZIP code, according to the DOH website.

The breakdown by ZIP codes in the county is 36 cases each in Tucumcari, 33 Logan and five in San Jon.

Four new cases have been reported in Quay County in four days.

A total of 73 cases have been reported in the county since the pandemic began, with two deaths. The total by ZIP code is 74.

David Morgan, spokesman for the DOH, explained the discrepancy.

“The straggler is a someone not currently in Quay County, but still listing somewhere in Quay County as their permanent address,” he stated in an email Thursday. “This is actually something that has occurred more than once in the state over these crazy months.”

Also, the state’s COVID-19 rapid-response database shows a team was referred Friday to a confirmed case with an employee at PMG Family Medicine at 402 E. Miel de Luna Ave. in Tucumcari. Entities must follow coronavirus safety protocol after such a referral.

Two deaths have been reported in the county since April.

Forty-four people in the county have recovered from the disease. A total of 1,811 tests have been administered.

In the state, 67 new cases were reported Sunday. That brought the total to more than 27,500 since the pandemic began.

Two deaths were reported in New Mexico on Sunday, bringing the overall total to 849.

A total of 64 people in New Mexico remain hospitalized with COVID-19. A total of 15,412 people have been deemed as recovered from the virus.

In the U.S., 6.8 million people have been confirmed with the virus as of Monday morning, with 199,000 deaths.
