Plateau offering college scholarships

Plateau’s Education Foundation is again offering college scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

Applications are available on the cooperative’s website at http://www.plateautel.com/company/scholarships. Scholarships available include the $8,000 Evelyn Patterson Memorial Scholarship, the $8,000 Robert M. Harris Memorial Scholarship, the $3,000 Banner Scholarship, the $1,500 Tonie Martinez Memorial Scholarship and the $1,500 Committed to Excellence Scholarship.

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than Feb. 26 and mailed to Education Foundation Committee, c/o Plateau, P.O. Box 1947, 7111 N. Prince, Clovis, NM 88102-1947. For questions, call (575) 389-4387 or (800) 432.2369, Ext. 4387.

The cooperative is also participating in the Foundation for Rural Service College Scholarship Program. College-bound high school seniors who are dependents of cooperative members can apply to the program through Plateau’s website at http://www.plateautel.com/frs.

Eighteen local students have won scholarships through the national program in its 18-year history. The application deadline for the FRS program is March 5.

Also, applications for the Tom M. Phelps Scholarship for college juniors and seniors are available at http://www.plateautel.com/tps. The $2,000 scholarship honors retired Plateau CEO Tom M. Phelps. These applications must be postmarked by Feb. 26 to be considered.

Since 1993, the Education Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships to area students.

Funds for the Education Foundation are derived from donated and abandoned capital credit payments from the Cooperative’s membership. Among the foundation’s goals is to improve educational opportunities for youth in the service area.

Formed in 1949 as Eastern New Mexico Rural Telephone Cooperative, Plateau provides advanced communications services including voice, Internet and video to residents in all or parts of 18 eastern New Mexico counties and five in the Texas Panhandle.
