Quay returns to low ebb of cases

Quay County returned to a low ebb of coronavirus cases last week, recording no cases since May 25.

That was a far cry from a one-month period starting in mid-April, when more than 80 cases were reported. Most were reported in the Tucumcari, Logan and San Jon ZIP codes.

The overall total in the county through Friday stood at 518, with 10 deaths. One case was removed by the state Department of Health from the total last week because it was a duplicate.

A total of 462 people were deemed by the DOH to have recovered from the disease.

The breakdown of COVID-19 cases by ZIP code in Quay County through Friday was 369 in Tucumcari, 94 in Logan, 23 in San Jon, 11 in House, nine in McAlister, four in Nara Visa, five in Grady (part of which extends into Quay County), and four in Bard.

No COVID-19 rapid responses were recorded at Quay County entities last week.

In New Mexico, 161 new COVID-19 cases were reported Friday, bringing the overall total to more than 203,000 since the pandemic began.

Seven COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state Friday, raising the total at 4,280.

A total of 102 people were hospitalized in New Mexico with the disease Friday, a decrease of seven from the previous week.

The Amarillo metro region on Friday totaled 312 active cases of the disease — a decrease of nearly 100 in one week. The hospitalization rate was 6.39%, which was stable from the previous week.

In the U.S., more than 33.3 million people have been confirmed with COVID-19 since the pandemic began, with more than 597,000 deaths, through Friday.
