Over this past weekend, Americans celebrated that, for 245 years, we’ve been free of governmental tyranny. Throughout our history, we’ve continued to fight against one form of tyranny or another, either against another country or ourselves, the latter of which led to the greatest trauma because almost as many Americans died during the Civil War (the one against ourselves) than all others combined. After nearly every war, though, the wounds have been allowed to heal and the opposing nations have become our allies.
While significant progress has been made to bring about a peaceful elimination of the evil of divisive racism, now, despite the wishes of the majority, some keep stirring the pot by calling just about everything racist. These new charges of racism are nothing more than tyrannical bullying that’s causing strife and limiting everyone’s freedom!
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. understood that freedom was necessary to overcome the inequities among people groups. Here’s what he said, “And when this happens, and when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: "Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last. (https://naacp.org/find-resources/history-explained/1963-march-washington)."
This past June, even Al Sharpton recognized the damage being done by those now promoting the so-called anti-racism agendas stating, “So if you’re sitting around sipping lattes in the Hamptons talking about what’s going on in Harlem, you may not know the progress that we have made in terms of going from not being able to vote, in my mother and father’s generation, to electing a black president in my generation because you were never discriminated against,” he added. “And I think that a lot of people have taken advantage of our pain rather than trying to ease our pain, . . . Those currently promoting the extreme anti-racism agendas claim to represent the down-trodden, but they likely haven’t left their ivory palaces to see the progress made in bringing about freedom through equality (however slow it may have progressed). They’re also actually trying to void all the progress previously made to promote their own agendas, whatever those are. They exploit as many “sides” as they can through the false flattery, claiming to represent all to their own advantage (Jude 16-19; 2 Peter 2:17-19; Proverbs 28:25; 16:27-28). Rather than allowing wounds to heal, they keep picking at the scabs, which everyone, including them, knows will slow the healing process, if not prevent it altogether. They’ll answer go God for keeping the pot of dissension stirred that interferes with the unity that brings true freedom (Proverbs 6:1-19; Matthew 12:25; Psalm 133:1-3; Romans 13:8-14; Galatians 3:26-28). Let’s not put up with them either (1 Corinthians 1:10; Romans 16:17; Titus 3:9-11)!
