4-H rodeo returns this weekend

The Quay County 4-H Rodeo, which returns to the Quay County Fairgrounds Arena on Friday and Saturday, will test the skills of local cowboys and cowgirls.

Among the events are barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping, calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. The rodeo opens each evening at 5.

Trophy saddles are awarded to the all-around winners in three age groups. Trophy buckles also are awarded to the runners-up in the all-around, and buckles are given to event winners in three age groups.

Saddle donors and Gold Star contributors to the rodeo are the T-4 Cattle Company, Southwest Quay Soil and Water Conservancy District, Farm Credit of NM, Screwbean Ranch, Elks Lodge No. 1172, Logan Home & Auto Center, R&R Line Services, Discovery Inn, Canadian River Soil and Water Conservancy District, Terry's Service Center, Terry's Service Center Logan, Terry's Transport Inc. and Citizens Bank.

Quay County 4-H members and their parents, plus 25 volunteers, will be helping with many of the activities and running the concession stand.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Programs are available with the events and contestants.
