1972: Beth Martinez, a senior at Tucumcari High School, was named Homecoming queen and will reign over the Rattlers’ Homecoming football game on Friday night.

She is a cheerleader, the president of the Spanish Club and a member of Sub Deb.

She, along with Jody Watson and Nadine Beck, were chosen to represent their class. Escorting Martinez will be Martin Romero, student body president.

• City police officers arrested three men after receiving a call from the Holiday Inn about a bad credit card used there. They had been in a car stolen from Conway, Arkansas, and the card had been stolen, as well.

• Seven people, including an infant, were hospitalized after a collision between a truck and a car at Rock Island Street and Smith Avenue. The driver of the car was cited for drunken driving and failing to stop at a stop sign.

• Earl Curtis was organizing a 4-H gun club in Quay County for all boys and girls age 9 to 19.

• Tucumcari school district’s band directors reported more than 300 students were enrolled in band. A total of 186 were in band the previous school year.
