LOGAN - Haden Judd played a big role in the host Longhorns' team victory Saturday at the 22-team Logan Varsity Meet.
Judd won two individual events and finished second in three others to help the Logan boys track team rack up 99 points, finishing well ahead of district rival and runner-up Melrose and its 77 points. Texico finished third with 73 points.
The Tucumcari boys finished ninth with 22 points, and San Jon was 14th with four points.
In the girls team standings, Melrose took home the team title with 103 points, with Logan and Tucumcari finishing second and third with 80 and 50 points, respectively. San Jon did not score.
Judd, a sophomore who missed the previous weekend's Rattler Relays in Tucumcari because he was participating in an FFA event, took home top individual medals in the 100-meter dash (11.30 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (0:43.34).
Judd also finished runner-up in the long jump (19 feet), pole vault (13 feet, 6 inches) and 200-meter dash (0:23.42).
Other winners for the Logan boys were their 800-meter relay team (1:37.50) and 3,200-meter relay team (9:45.70).
Other Longhorns who scored points for their team were:

Tucumcari's lone individual champion was Fernando Ureste, who completed the 3,200-meter run in 11:41.43, beating teammate and runner-up Alex Bueno de la O by more than 30 seconds.
Ureste also finished second in the 1,600-meter run in 5:13.56, and Bueno de la O was fifth in that race in 5:38.50.
Curtis Gonzales also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (0:55.63) for the Rattlers.
For San Jon, Marvin Reece finished third in the 110-meter hurdles in 0:19.49.
In Logan girls competition, Kaylee Williams won the 100-meter dash (0:13.34), 200-meter dash (0:27.92) and long jump (15-0 3/4).
Haylie Bidegain also won the 800-meter run in 2:38.38.
Logan's 400-meter relay team (0:54.25), 800-meter relay team (1:56.61) and 3,200-meter relay team (12:16.15) also finished first.
Other Lady Longhorns who scored team points were:
- Makinlee Judd, second, 100-meter dash (0:13.38), third in 300-meter hurdles (0:53.95) and fifth in long jump (13-7);

For Tucumcari, July Lafferty won a first-place medal in the 400-meter dash (1:04.92) and was second in the javelin (89-5).
Others who scored points for the Lady Rattlers were:

- Riley Knapp, sixth, 200-meter dash (0:30.83);

- 1,600-meter relay team, second (4:44.78).
Tucumcari probably missed out of points because defending state champion long-jumper Haisley Huffman and state-qualifying javelin thrower Alexus Lafferty were playing at a softball tournament in Las Vegas.
