Longhorns improve to 5-0 in baseball

The Logan baseball team improved to 5-0 on the season after a 15-5 non-district victory Thursday at Questa.

Though the Longhorns briefly trailed 3-2, they scored in every inning, including six runs in the fifth and final frame to end the game via the 10-run mercy rule.

Mason Wallin went 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two runs for Logan. Colton Liles went 2-for-3 with a triple and a home run, with two RBI. Aydin Kotara also blasted a home run.

Logan’s Kaeden Stoner and Park Strong combined on the mound for 12 strikeouts and two hits allowed.

Questa fell to 1-6-1.

Logan 21, Gateway Christian 8

The Longhorns notched their third straight victory over Class 1A runner-up Gateway Christian, this time at Roswell last Monday.

Logan at one point trailed the Warriors 3-2 but erupted for six runs in the third inning and six in the fourth to take control.

Wallin went 3-for-5 with a triple and a game-high five RBI for the Longhorns. Diego Sanchez went 4-for-4 with three RBI, and Izaiah Kneitz drove in three runs and scored three.

Logan totaled 16 hits during the game and stole 11 bases

Brock Burns earned the win, allowing five unearned runs in five innings.

The Warriors damaged their cause with six errors, leading to nine unearned runs.

Gateway fell to 1-5.
