Three area players picked for all-star baseball

Logan senior catcher Park Strong, Logan senior third baseman Skyler DeLuca and Tucumcari senior outfielder Billy Otero recently were selected to the annual Class 1A-3A Red vs. Green All-Star baseball games organized by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

Games will be played at 7 p.m. June 2, 10 a.m. June 3 and 30 minutes after the second game at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho.

Strong and Otero will be part of the Red team coached by Robertson’s Leroy Gonzales.

Strong hit .565 this season with 39 RBI, a .956 slugging percentage and a team-high 14 doubles and five triples for the Class 1A runner-up Longhorns.

Otero led the Rattlers with a .463 average and five doubles.

DeLuca will be part of the Green team coached by Chris Galbraith of Ruidoso. He hit .421 with 21 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Players on the rosters also come from Eunice, Santa Rosa, McCurdy, Zuni, Mesilla Valley, Sandia Prep, Leguna Acoma, New Mexico Military Institute, Penasco, Magdalena, Tularosa, Ruidoso, Capitan, Raton, Cimarron, Texico, Cobre, Gateway Christian, Rehoboth, Hot Springs, Robertson, St. Michaels, Loving and Mora.
