Clerk's office gives notice of voter registration initiative

The Quay County Clerk’s Office last week gave notice that a voter registration update or cancellation initiative is underway in New Mexico and in many adjoining States.

All 33 counties in New Mexico are sending notices to individuals who are registered but have addresses verified through other agencies that show they may be receiving mail and/or live somewhere else other than what is on file with their county clerk regarding voter registration.

Notices are being sent to give voters the opportunity to update their current registration and stay registered in Quay County.

At this time, voters may need to register in a new county or state due to a recent move.

The Quay County Clerk’s Office is making every attempt to correct any voter registration information. Anyone who receives a notice should fill out the necessary documents provided and return them promptly.

Anyone who is a parent of a child who has moved away and no longer needs to be a registered voter in Quay County should contact the clerk’s office so it can provide the necessary documentation to have them removed.

In addition, anyone who is a spouse of someone who is deceased and is receiving a letter for their loved one, please contact the clerk’s office with a date of death so we can properly remove them from the database.

As well, a third-party nationwide election group is sending notices to individuals turning 18 who have not registered. Also, individuals who are perhaps not registered at all, regardless of age, may receive this notice.

Anyone with questions regarding about any election-related mail should call (575) 461-0510.
