Groups offer suicide prevention training

The Quay County Health Council is partnering with NMSU Cooperative Extension Service and United Way of Eastern New Mexico to provide opportunities this month for suicide prevention training.

This evidence-based program will equip community members with the tools to engage and assist people during their most vulnerable moments.

Suicide has become more common in rural communities. Those participating in these sessions will feel more comfortable talking to someone about suicide. Most people often are relieved to be able to talk to someone about their struggles. This training can make participants someone who will listen and assist on the path of safety with compassion and resources.

The sessions by videoconference are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 20 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21.
