1973: State Sen. Gladys Hansen of Dona Ana County and New Mexico Secretary of State Ernestine Evans were honored during a Quay County Democratic Women’s dinner at Del’s Restaurant.

During the event, Hansen advocated voting for a constitutional amendment that would remove two-term limits for county officials.

Evans, previously a state representative and an administrative secretary for the governor, was running for re-election.

— A resident of north rural Tucumcari reported a break-in at his home where a TV set, tape player, several guns, jewelry and a guitar were stolen. The sheriff apprehended two suspects and recovered all the stolen items.

— A man from Niagara Falls, New York, was in fair condition at Trigg Memorial Hospital after crashing his van seven miles west of Tucumcari. State police reported the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel, went off the highway and crashed into an embankment.

— Citizens Bank’s “Support Your Rattlers” advertisement featured coach Gary Laird, offensive line coach Dave Lynn, senior halfback Robby Birch, junior cornerback Richard Mendez, defensive coordinator Mike Lees and defensive secondary coach Pat Lujan.

— The Odeon Theatre was screening two Disney films: “One Little Indian” and “Lady and the Tramp.”
