Health council offers Narcan training again

The Quay County Health Council again is offering training with Narcan, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The council will offer the free training at 11 a.m. Dec. 9 in the Tucumcari MainStreet office of the Tucumcari Railroad Museum.

Training will last about an hour and show how to identify an opioid overdose, the laws that protect citizens trying to save a life, how to use Narcan and follow-up care of an overdose victim.

Free Narcan kits will be provided to each participant, a $140 value.

“The more people in our community that are trained and have access to Narcan, the more lives we can save,” health council coordinator Brenda Bishop stated in a news release.

Also, the council will offer free lock boxes to safely store medications or edibles in your home to keep it away from children or teenagers. The lock boxes are available on a first come, first served basis.
