4 Rattlers make first-team all-district

Four Tucumcari football players earned first-team all-district honors, with eight others earning second-team or honorable mention awards.

Sophomore wide receiver and defensive back Kamren Apodaca, senior running back and linebacker Antonio Gonzales, junior running back and linebacker Jordan Rincones and sophomore wide receiver and defensive back Daymion Urioste each made the first team in District 4 of Class 3A.

Urioste totaled a team-high 768 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns during the season.

Apodaca totaled 429 all-purpose yards, with six touchdowns.

Rincones totaled 489 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns and led the team in tackles with 46.

Gonzales totaled 158 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, was second on the team in tackles with 37 and forced two fumbles.

Gonzales also will play inside linebacker on the Small-School Green Team during the New Mexico High School Coaches Association's Red vs. Green All-Star Game on Dec. 2 in Artesia.

Logan's Brock Burns also will play on the Red Team as a punter.

Rattlers who made the second team were:

- Sophomore wide receiver and defensive back Luis Archuleta (six passes defensed; two interceptions);

- Junior wide receiver and defensive back Jase Aughtman (25 tackles);

- Junior tight end and defensive end Julian Griego (124 all-purpose yards and two interceptions);

- Sophomore quarterback Nick Romero (77-for-134 passing, 731 yards, 10 touchdowns, six interceptions).

THS players who made honorable mention:

- Junior offensive and defensive lineman Shane Jaggers;

- Junior running back and linebacker Diego Martinez;

- Junior offensive and defensive lineman Joe Page;

- Senior center and defensive lineman Erik Perez.

The Rattlers went 3-6 overall, their best season in years.
