Longhorns improve to 5-0

The Logan boys basketball team improved to 5-0 after road victories last week over Legacy Academy and Evangel-Oak Grove, both in Albuquerque.

After a slow start, the Longhorns outscored Legacy’s Silverbacks 39-25 in the second and third quarters during their 59-45 victory Friday.

Logan led just 6-5 after the first quarter but surged to a 22-15 lead at halftime and 45-30 after the third quarter.

Logan at one point had a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter before Legacy mounted a small rally.

“It was a tough game in a good environment,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “We battled them last year in the playoffs, so we know they could come out and give everything they had. I’m proud of the way our guys handled the adversity and finished the game.”

Hayden Bruhn led Logan with 26 points, while Mason Wallin added 10 points.

Legacy fell to 2-3.

Logan 85, Evangel-Oak Grove 53

Texico surged to a 30-point lead at halftime during a 79-37 victory over visiting Tucumcari on Dec. 5.

“Their size was overwhelming,” THS coach Gary Hittson said. “They probably didn’t start anybody under 6-foot. They were fast, and they had size.”

Luis Archuleta led the Rattlers (1-3) with 20 points.

The Wolverines (4-3) had five players in double figures, including Jett Curtis’ 17 points.

Texico’s three losses all were against Texas teams.
