Lady Rattlers win consolation title at Santa Rosa tourney

The Tucumcari softball team won the consolation title Saturday in the Lady Lion Softball Classic tournament by blasting the host team 17-0.

Lady Rattlers starting pitcher Mia Estrada earned the complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out 11.

“Mia has been locked in,” Tucumcari coach CJ Oglesby said.

Estrada and Harley McKinney were named to the all-tournament team.

Tucumcari scored in every inning against Santa Rosa, totaling 17 hits.

McKinney went 5-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles and a triple. Haisley Huffman hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run and totaled a team-high four RBI.

Alexis Ramirez, July Lafferty and Kirksey Smith also each drove in four runs for the Lady Rattlers.

The Lady Rattlers went 2-1 in the tournament, losing only to Mesilla Valley Christian on Thursday during the season-opener for THS.

Tucumcari 21, Mora 4

The Lady Rattlers scored 14 runs in the third inning, helping secure a 21-4 victory over Mora in the consolation round Friday of the Lady Lion Softball Classic.

Ramirez, Huffman, Lafferty and Smith each drove in three runs for the Lady Rattlers, who totaled 12 hits.

Huffman hit a three-run triple during the game, and Tayden Hyslop cracked a home run to center field.

Estrada earned the win for THS, allowing seven runs and four hits while striking out four.

Mesilla Valley Christian 12, Tucumcari 2

The Lady Rattlers lost their season opener Thursday 12-2 to Mesilla Valley Christian at the Lady Lion Softball Classic.

“We made errors that cost us the game,” Oglesby said. “A lot of nerves in the first game.”

Amaya Roybal went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles. Lafferty went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs driven in.

Estancia wound up winning the tournament title, with wins over Mora, Mesilla Valey and Dora.
