  • Military families not deterred

    Karl Terry CMI columnist|Oct 16, 2012

We got our first blast of winter last weekend and I had to attend two different events that were outdoors. After talking to one young lady with her hoodie up and teeth chattering I shortly spotted a young man in shorts and a long sleeve T-shirt. We all have differing tolerance to cold and heat and it doesn't become obvious until that first cold snap of the year. Putting on Cannon Appreciation Day in Portales with the Portales Military Affairs Committee during that first cold snap of the season proved a little nerve wracking for those of us plan...

  • No one will enter heaven on another's coattails

    Leonard Lauriault QCS columnist|Oct 16, 2012

I was jesting with a friend recently who made a statement I knew was an exaggeration. So, I told her I thought she needed to go forward on Sunday and repent. My friend let me know that she goes by church twice every day. Drive-by shootings have occurred at last since shortly after cars came into mass production. But I've never heard of drive-by church attendance before. As it turns out, my friend attends (yes, that's present tense; remember that) a church that happens to also be on her way to work. While I'm pretty sure my friend attends...

Hinze said that in August he was home recovering after knee surgery, watching a program and when it was over the people were talk...

  • Editorial: Voters should support Bond C question

    Clovis Media Inc|Oct 16, 2012

Those supporting taxpayer-funded higher education in New Mexico should take a close look at the Bond C question on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot. Voters statewide will decide whether to allow the state to issue $120 million in general obligation bonds for capital improvements at New Mexico's universities and colleges. The cost breaks down to about $6 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home. But taxes would not increase because this "GO" bond actually replaces a retiring bond by the same amount. Locally, Bond C would funnel almost $11...
