Portales woman critical after boating accident

Shaina Pool, 22, of Portales, is in critical condition with life threatening injuries at an Amarillo hospital following a boating accident Sunday on Ute Lake in Logan, according to state police.

Capt. Jimmy Glascock said Pool was a passenger in the front of a boat filled with friends. A family friend said the group was heading into shore after a day on the lake.

Glascock said there were nine passengers in the boat, including Pool. He said the driver of the boat turned it sharply, Pool fell into the lake and was struck by the boat.

State park officials investigating the accident have declined to provide details of the accident.

Glascock said his department's investigation was to determine if any laws were broken. No charges had been filed.

Rebecca Martinez Holt of Clovis said she helped organize a prayer vigil for Pool, a longtime family friend. The vigil was held Monday at Marshall Middle School, she said, and about 45 people attended.
