Bicyclist Joe Fors, traveling from Chicago, stopped at the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari before continuing his trip to Los Angeles to raise cancer awareness.

Tucumcari received a pink visitor Thursday, with bicycler Joe Fors coming through the city to talk about cancer.

Fors, traveling from Chicago, stopped at the Blue Swallow Motel before continuing his trip to Los Angeles. He said the trip is an effort to help people become more aware of all types of cancer. Fors said he lost his stepmother in September to cancer, and before then he had never lost somebody close to him from the disease.

Over the last five weeks, Fors has tried to ride 50 to 60 miles per day on a path that is mostly Route 66, but will include a detour so he can spend time with his family in Arizona for Christmas.

He describes himself as being in the bar and restaurant business and currently on vacation, and that he has given the American Cancer Society $1,200 so far.
