Thomas: Nothing wrong with letting your imagination run free

As you all may know the source of many of my columns are the animals, people and events going on in my life.

It has been a few weeks since I have written a column and I can assure you it is not from a lack of events, cast or settings. In fact this past weekend was chock-full of events and good times.

Some I can't talk about because the names have been changed to protect the innocent. For those who might not know, that was a Dragnet segue.

The office lizard has found his way back inside after we had him removed so we could spray for spiders and other creepy crawlers.

Yeah, I know technically the lizard qualifies as a creepy crawler and would make a few of my friend jump on a chair and shriek in fear from the mere site of it.

I've figured out that it is trying to climb the wall to reach the window. Perhaps he wants to be up there because of the warmth from the sunlight throughout the day. Maybe it just wants to work on a tan, or make shadow puppets.

At any rate he is sitting on the desk behind mine and occasionally I hear him as he efforts to make the ascent to the plateau above.

I've always had a vivid imagination, which keeps me entertained even as I write this column. So I've decided to put that imagination to good use to help finish this column and possibly stir up a hornet's nest.

Now, some might think I'm imagining the lizard dressed like Sly Stallone in Cliffhanger trying to free-climb the north face of the summit, every bit of his effort focused on the goal of making it to the top at any cost.

How about this? The vision of a lizard dressed as Moses casting tiny stone tablets down upon the newsroom floor make me smile, too. So I've decided to go off the reservation with this one.

Let me set the scene: Snow capped mountains line the horizon, a cool breeze blows across a green meadow spotted with wild flowers. The meadow runs right up to the rock face where you find the lizard... dressed in a green German Lederhosen with gold accents. If you're not sure what that looks like its the outfit you'd see most guys and some gals dressed in at Oktoberfest.

The lizard starts to make its way up the summit with a lively and merry step which is in time with its yodeling. Yes I said yodeling, can you hear the accordion?

"Yodel-oh-ee-dee, Diddly-odel-oh-ee-dee Diddly-odel-oh-ee-dee," the lizard sings, continuing upward overlooking the lush green valley below, complete with a small cabin nestled among the trees.

All is going well and soon the lizard has almost reached the top, until I over bid on the Orange Glow Hardwood cleaner, sending the poor guy right over the ledge.

Chances are I may have lost some of you readers back at Oktoberfest, Lord knows I would have stayed there, too, given the chance.

There is nothing wrong with letting your imagination run wild every now and then, in fact it can be a good way to relax and ease some stress.

Though at the end of the day you'll have no choice but to move on and face the reality that the Red Wings lost to the Blackhawks.
