The Quay County Commission Monday approved requests for waivers of grant matching funds that could reduce the county’s cost of improvements on Quay Road 63, also called Cemetery Road west of Tucumcari, by $113,250.
The improvements totaling nearly $622,700 will be paid for by state department of transportation funds and county money. If the waivers are approved, it would mean the county would pay only $42,425 for the project.
The improvements will include resurfacing.
The county is likely to qualify for the waivers, County Manager Richard Primrose said, because its status as a low tax-revenue county.
The commission also approved the county’s “Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan 2016-2020,” which is a “wish list” of capital improvement projects that is used for planning, as well as to request capital outlay funding from the New Mexico Legislature.
Top items on this year’s list include renovations at the Quay County Detention Center, including new plumbing, new shower facilities and repairs to stucco on the building’s exterior, Primrose said.
The county seeks $250,000 for these improvements, the plan document says.
Other priorities include $195,00 to replace aging County Road Department vehicles and $85,000 to purchase a skid-steer for the road department.
Rounding out the top 10 items in the capital improvement plan are:
• Courthouse window replacement, $318,500
• Dump truck equipment, $350,000
• Upgrading two bridges on Historic Route 66, $3 million through 2020
• Dozer equipment, $750,000
• Pneumatic roller, $170,000
• Improvements at the Quay County Fairgrounds rodeo arena, $100,000
• Office equipment, $50,000
