Serving the High Plains

Healthcare law workshop will aid residents

Staff Report

Two public informational events aimed at providing residents a chance to learn about changes in federal health law will take place Thursday at the Tucumcari Convention Center.

The free events will be put on by BeWellnm, the official state marketplace for New Mexicans to shop, buy, and compare health plans.

The upcoming changes in the law take effect Jan. 31, which is the deadline to enroll in an exchange-based health plan.

Information will include the various plans offered on the exchange, and subsidies or tax credits for which they may be eligible. Information will be given in English and Spanish and there will be assistance provided to help with individual enrollment.

The New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) was created to help individuals and small businesses get access to affordable health insurance plans. NMHIX helps consumers compare health insurance plans and choose the plan that works best for their health needs and budget. NMHIX also helps individuals determine whether they are eligible for premium assistance and if so, at what level.

Through BeWellnm for Small Business, small business owners are able to purchase competitively priced health insurance plans and offer their employees the ability to choose from an array of plans.

Enrollment counselors and insurance brokers/agents are available throughout the state to help with signing up for NMHIX coverage.

The times for the events are: 3 p.m., in the Liberty Room; and 6 p.m. in the Liberty Room.

BeWellnm offers a variety of services. Visit http://www.bewellnm.com to apply for cost-assistance, compare prices, change plans and enroll in a plan. For more information about the events, please call (505) 433-3498.
