Quay County Fair schedule

The 2016 Quay County Fair, complete with exhibits, farm and ranch competitions and carnival rides, opens to the public at 5 p.m. today and continues through Saturday at the Quay County Fairgrounds, Tucumcari.

Here is a schedule of events:

Today 9 a.m., deadline for 4-H entries to be brought to Fairgrounds. Noon, deadline for all entries. Home Arts building closes for judging. 3 p.m. Sheep and goat showmanship clinic, Show Arena. 5 p.m. Fair opens to the public 5 p.m. Shepherd’s Lead Contest, Show Arena Swine show follows Shepherd’s Lead.

Thursday 10 a.m. Rabbit show, followed by Poultry show, Rabbit and Poultry Arena. 2 p.m. Steer and heifer showmanship Clinic, Show Arena. 5 p.m. Goat show, Show Arena Lamb show follows Goat Show, Show Arena. Catch-It Heifer Scramble follows Goat Show, Rodeo Arena.

Friday 7 a.m. Horse show, Rodeo Arena. 2 p.m. Dog show, Show Arena 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Watermelon feed. 4:30 p.m., Catch It Heifer show, Show Arena. Followed by heifer and steer show.

Saturday (Family Day) 9 a.m., Livestock judging contest, South End. 10 a.m., Itty Bitty Rodeo, Show Arena. 11 a.m., Ranch rodeo, Rodeo Arena 1 p.m., Pet parade, Show Arena 1 p.m. Horseshoe pitching, Horseshoe pits north of Travis Nelson Building 2:30 p.m., 4-H scavenger hunt. 6 p.m. Junior livestock sale, show arena 9 p.m. Remove exhibits and award premiums The Exhibit Hall with more than 30 vendors will be open 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m Thursday through Saturday. The 4-H Concession Stand will open at 5:30 p.m. today and Thursday, and at 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The Eastern New Mexico Bluegrass Association will provide music from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in the Exhibit Hall. Sun Valley Rides carnival attractions open at 5 p.m. daily.
