Local athletes among best in classroom

RICHARDSON, Texas — In the classroom, Eastern New Mexico University athletes have been some of the best in the Lone Star Conference, with six consecutive semesters of placing among the top three in LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selections.

Wednesday made it seven semesters, as the list released by the LSC office had 131 Greyhounds on the list.

Eastern was topped by only Angelo State (144) and Texas A&M-Commerce (139), and ahead of UT Permian Basin (125) and West Texas A&M (119).

Logan’s Wyatt Strand was one of 35 selections from the football team. Softball had a larger proportional selection rate, with 11 of their 13 players making the list with seven scoring 4.0 GPAs.

The commissioners honor roll had a total of 1,167 student-athletes who competed in at least one sport. Honor roll selections maintained a 3.30 GPA for the spring semester while maintaining roster status with their respective teams.

The list had 357 students who maintained a 4.0 GPA, with 28 coming from ENMU athletes. Texas A&M-Commerce had the most flawless marks with 51, just ahead of Angelo State’s 50. Football had the most 4.0 athletes with 45, followed by softball with 38.

A total of 107 ENMU student-athletes earned commissioner’s honor roll designation following the spring 2018 semester.
